Naven Lighthouse
Naven is located off the waters of Dalbosjö, northwest of the island of Kållandsö. It is home to one of Lake Vänern’s most well-known lighthouses, itself rich in tradition. The lighthouse enjoys a strategic location by the entrance to the channel, and the small white house with its lighthouse tower is visible from afar, across the small islands and open waters of the lake.
In earlier times, there was a navigation mark on the rocky island of Naven.
Around 1830, the island was home to a bascule light which consisted of a post with a lever arm on which a basket of burning dry wood could be hoisted up and down. The bascule light was replaced by a proper lighthouse in 1856.
The lighthouse had a telephone link to Kållandsö island as far back as 1896 (the telephone number was “3”). In 1950, the lighthouse was fitted with electricity as well as gas (reserve). The electrical installations were modernised in 1993.
